White ankle socks were a favourite during the mid-forties when stockings became rationed and so the ladies turned to these gorgeous alternatives. It was either wear darling little white cotton socks or risk it and draw a faux stocking line up the back of your leg... personally I wouldn't risk the smudge. Ankle socks work with almost anything (except Jesus sandles, just NO.) White ankle socks and heels are ADORABLE. Do it. Just do it.
